So this week we have been discussing THEME in literature, and how it is different from TOPIC. For example, we read a story from Afghanistan about a village that was afraid of a melon because they thought it was a terrible animal. A boy told them that it was just a delicious melon. We discovered that the TOPIC was: A boy introduces a village to delicious melon. The THEME was: Don’t be afraid of things that you are unfamiliar with. The THEME is a moral or lesson that you get from the story.
Now think of some stories that you know: Harry Potter, “Cinderella”, The Hunger Games, and “The Gingerbread Man”. What are some THEMES that you see within those books?
I will chose to talk about the theme of “Cinderella”. The theme in the book “Cinderella” is that a poor young girl meets her true love while her rude and mean stepsisters and stepmother now work for her. SO the actual theme of the story is that do on to others as you want done unto you. 🙂 <3<3<3
Hmmm, at first you say the THEME is about a poor girl. That sounds like it’s a part of the story. When it deals with the story, it’s the TOPIC. You are right, though, in saying that one theme is do unto others as you would want done to you. It could also be that good things happen to good people.
Ms.n I actually have never read ether bookes. 🙁
That’s okay. Think of a book you have read. What’s the Theme? Oh, and remember to tell me the title (with correct punctuation).
;(
Why so glum? You don’t have to have the theme for those books. Those were just examples. What was one of the themes in The Red Pyramid Wasn’t that the name of the last book you read? It probably had several.
Are you realy sad
Diary of a wimpy kid. The theme in the Diary of a wimpy kid is a boy that tries to be the best kid in his school. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
That sounds more like a main idea or topic. Could it be that ‘you should always be yourself’? Or ‘be the best person you can’? Or ‘be happy with who you are’?
Be happy with who you are and don’t doubt your self. Like how my mom says.:) 🙂 🙂 b)
